Mr Ioannis Christakis is a board-certified and Fellowship trained Endocrine and General Surgeon. He is registered in the Specialist Registry of GMC in General Surgery from 2012 (GMC number: 7031590). He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and of the European Board of Endocrine Surgery. He was appointed as a Consultant Endocrine and General Surgeon in Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2019 and is the Lead for the Thyroid Cancer MDT of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
He manages both benign and complex cancer cases and performs operations for the entire spectrum of Endocrine Surgery diseases including minimally invasive and oncologic operations. He has a special interest in parathyroid disorders and Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndromes.
Mr Christakis performs an average of 100 parathyroidectomies, 100 thyroidectomies and 20 adrenalectomies per year.
He has trained in Endocrine Surgery in MD Anderson Cancer Centre (Houston, USA), Oxford University Hospital NHS Trust, King’s College Hospital NHS Trust and University College London Hospital NHS Trust.
He has completed a PhD degree in the Department of Endocrinology of Imperial College London and continues to be actively involved in basic science and clinical research. He has published numerous studies in peer-reviewed journals and is the author of several book chapters.
The clinical outcomes of Mr Christakis are submitted to the National Audit Registry of the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons.
