Parathyroid Operations (Parathyroidectomy)
The cure rate for parathyroidectomy patients is >95%.
Parathyroid operations are performed with the use of intraoperative nerve monitoring, intraoperative Parathyroid (PTH) measurement and preoperative fibreoptic laryngoscopy.
Mr Christakis offers all spectrums of parathyroid operations for primary hyperparathyroidism including:
- Normocalcemic and normohormonal hyperparathyroidism
- Bilateral neck explorations (non-localised/negative preoperative scans)
- Redo-parathyroidectomy after previously failed neck exploration (persistent or recurrent hyperparathyroidism)
- Minimally invasive parathyroidectomy

Adrenal Operations (Adrenalectomy)
Adrenal operations are tailored to the individual and the underlying disorder and include minimally invasive approach (laparoscopic) operations and oncologic operations.
Mr Christakis works closely with the Endcrinology colleagues and the colleagues from the Department of Genetics for the patients with an adrenal disease that have a genetic background.
All patients have their managent plan reviewed and validated in the Adrenal Multidisciplinary Team Meeting of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
